Job Description:
The Director of IT, Clinical Engineering is a strategic and operational leader responsible for the comprehensive management and oversight of the regional hospitals’ clinical engineering services. This role ensures the safe, effective, and efficient utilization of medical equipment and technology across all clinical areas. The Director will lead a team of biomedical engineers, technicians, and other support staff in providing a full range of services, including equipment maintenance, repair, calibration, safety testing, technology assessment, integration, cybersecurity, acquisition support, and user training. The Director will collaborate closely with clinical staff, other areas of IT, facilities, and other departments to optimize the lifecycle management of medical devices and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
This position is an onsite role and does not offer a hybrid or remote option.
The Director plays a key role in the hospital’s strategic and operational efforts in the following categories:
Strategic Leadership & Vision:
Develop and implement a comprehensive clinical engineering strategy that aligns with the healthcare system’s clinical, operational, and financial goals.
Anticipate future medical technology trends and their impact on the organization, proactively planning for technology adoption and integration.
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor and evaluate the performance of the clinical engineering department.
Equipment Lifecycle Management:
Oversee the entire lifecycle of medical equipment, from acquisition and installation to maintenance, repair, calibration, and eventual disposal.
Develop and manage the capital equipment planning process in collaboration with clinical and financial stakeholders.
Lead the evaluation and selection of new medical equipment and technologies, ensuring alignment with clinical needs, budget constraints, and strategic objectives.
Technology Assessment & Integration:
Lead the evaluation of new and emerging medical technologies, providing recommendations on their potential adoption and integration into clinical practice.
Collaborate with other IT teams, and other departments to ensure the seamless integration of medical devices with the organization’s information systems.
Participate in the development and implementation of clinical technology training programs for staff.
Team Leadership & Development:
Provide strong leadership and direction to the clinical engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Establish clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
Promote professional development and training opportunities for team members.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the clinical engineering department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.

The Senior Director, Clinical Engineering provides strategic and operational leadership for UCHealth’s health medical device management program. This role is accountable for the systemwide consultation on best practices, performance, compliance, cybersecurity, and lifecycle management of all medical devices and related clinical technologies. The Senior Director sets enterprise policy and process standards, provides strategy on medical device integration options and chooses the best options with care delivery operational leaders. System Strategy & Governance
Define and execute the enterprise health technology management (HTM) strategy, governance, standards, and policies for medical equipment and connected clinical technologies.
Establish system metrics and dashboards for uptime, PM completion, recall closure, patient safety events, asset utilization, and total cost of ownership; report performance at the executive level and drive continuous improvement.
Asset Lifecycle & Capital Planning (>$1.3B assets)
Own systemwide capital planning and lifecycle management.
Lead enterprise technology assessment and solution standardization to reduce variation, strengthen clinical outcomes, and improve serviceability.
Partner with Finance/Supply Chain to optimize TCO, warranty strategies, and service contract models.
Operations, Reliability & Service Excellence
Oversee regional leaders and centralized teams to achieve high device reliability (uptime targets), rapid incident response, and project coordination.
Ensure the asset management platform is accurately maintained (inventory, risk rankings, service history) and integrated with clinical/IT systems.
Drive standard work, triage models, parts logistics, and service engineering practices across all regions.
Regulatory, Accreditation & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, FDA alerts/recalls, and UCHealth policies.
Lead the Medical Equipment Management Plan governance; proactively mitigate device risks; coordinate device incident investigations and corrective actions.
Maintain audit readiness. Lead responses to internal/external audits and surveys.
Cybersecurity & Connected Device Safety
Co‑lead (with Information Technology Security Team) the medical device cybersecurity program: asset discovery, risk scoring, vulnerability/patch management, and network segmentation.
Establish enterprise processes for firmware updates, security baselines, and threat monitoring while safeguarding clinical workflow and patient safety.
Vendor, OEM & Partner Management
Own strategic relationships and performance management for OEMs, third‑party service partners, and cybersecurity vendors; set outcome‑based SLAs and enforce accountability.
Collaborate with Supply Chain on sourcing strategies, RFPs, and standardization initiatives.
Talent Leadership & Culture
Lead and develop a multi‑site CE organization (leaders, engineers, technicians); build succession pipelines, certify competencies, and advance a just‑culture focused on safety and service.
Align leader behaviors with UCHealth Leader Competencies and DEI commitments; recognize excellence and promote engagement.
Stakeholder Engagement & Change Leadership
Partner with clinical and operational leaders from Facilities, Imaging, Lab, OR/Sterile Processing, Biomed, IT, and Patient Safety to co‑design technology that improves care quality and experience.

We are seeking Service Technicians to join our growing team! You will be protecting veterinary hospital staff from harmful gases and ensuring safe medical care for their furry patients. Preference will be given to candidates with medical equipment repair/service backgrounds and/or veterinary equipment experience.
